⚖️ VOICE OF JUSTICE: AGGRAVATED LIFE SENTENCE IN THE MURDER OF DERYA ÇAKIR

The trial against Ekrem Şavran, the vice principal who murdered kindergarten teacher Derya Çakır by slitting her throat in front of 25 students at Bağcılar ITO Elementary School on March 4, 2010, has finally been concluded. At the sentencing hearing, which was also attended by teacher Derya’s family, Ekrem Şavran claimed in his final defense that he was delirious and deeply remorseful.

🚨 COURT HIGHEST PENALTY, NO REDUCTIONS

The court did not heed the defendant’s requests for a reduction, claiming he was remorseful and psychologically unstable. Taking a clear stance against this incident, which deeply wounded the public conscience, the court found Ekrem Şavran guilty of:

  • premeditated murder.
  • sentenced him to aggravated life imprisonment.
  • ruled that the sentence be carried out in solitary confinement.

This decision once again demonstrated the deterrent power of the law against similar acts of violence.

🕊️ In Memory of Teacher Derya

The murder of Derya Çakır has gone down in history as one of the most tragic examples of femicide and workplace violence in Türkiye. This decision, which the court made without imposing a sentence reduction, is significant in meeting society’s expectations of justice and emphasizing the principle of zero tolerance for violence. May she rest in peace.
