Cockchafer (Melolontha vulgaris)

Cockchafer (Melolontha vulgaris)

It is one of the most harmful of the Coleoptera (sheath-winged insects). This is because, even in the white grub larval stage, it starts eating plant roots. The larva completes its metamorphosis into an adult beetle within three to five years. The beetle is **35 mm** long and chestnut-colored. It is seen everywhere during the month of May, feeding on young shoots and fresh leaves on trees.
