Showing the HDD (My Computer) icon on the desktop in Mac OS X

When you first open the MAC OS X operating system, the desktop will be empty. To add the HDD (My Computer) icon to the desktop, you need to follow these steps in order:
- Click an empty space on the desktop.
- To the right of the Apple menu, click Finder.
- In the menu that opens, click Preferences.
- Make your selections under the section "Show these items on the desktop" (or "General" tab), and close the window by clicking the red button.
